On 18 July 2025, our colleague Matej Vuković successfully defended his dissertation and was awarded a pass with distinction at the Institute of Human-Centred Computing, Graz University of Technology.
The dissertation was supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Inf. Dr. Stefanie Lindstaedt and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Thalmann (Business Analytics and Data Science-Center, University of Graz). The chairman of the examination committee was Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Volksw. Dr.rer.nat. M.Sc. Tobias Schreck (Institute of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualisation, Graz University of Technology).
The dissertation, titled
“Causal Discovery in Industrial Data Analysis: A Framework for Trustworthy Industrial Intelligence,”
addresses the challenge of implementing trustworthy AI in industrial environments by bridging the gap between causal data analysis, predictive modeling, and complex industrial settings.
Practical use cases in iron and steel manufacturing and plastic injection molding demonstrate how causal methods can generate actionable insights and thereby help overcome barriers to AI adoption in industry.
