Award-Winning Research at ISSRE 2025

Our PhD researcher Amel Jelidi recently traveled to São Paulo, Brazil to present her latest research results at the International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering (ISSRE) 2025. In addition to presenting her own work, Amel also had the honor of serving as a Session Chair for one of the conference sessions. Her presentation of the paper “V-Models: LLMs for the Development Lifecycle of Safety-Critical Systems” earned the Best Industrial Paper Award.

This recognition highlights the success of our collaboration between Pro2Future GmbH and Siemens, aimed at integrating intelligence into the development lifecycle of safety-critical systems.

The award-winning paper was co-authored by: Amel Jelidi and Amer Kajmakovic from Pro2Future GmbH, Alexander Palmisano and Franz Sentobe from Siemens, and Prof. Kay Römer. Institute of Technical Informatics, TU Graz

The paper demonstrates how Large Language Models (LLMs) can support engineers throughout the development lifecycle – specifically focusing on the V-Model and its bottlenecks. Two assistants were developed: The Digital Safety Assistant (DSA), which provides domain-specific knowledge through Retrieval-Augmented Generation, helping safety engineers navigate norms and standards more efficiently. The Automated Testing Assistant, which supports the verification phase of the V-Model by automatically generating and debugging PLC test cases.

Amel’s presentation was a standout moment at the conference, clearly communicating the technical depth and industrial relevance of our work. This achievement confirms our commitment to advancing AI in industry – not as a replacement for human expertise, but as a powerful amplifier of human capabilities, especially in domains where informed decisions and safety are critical.
